Second Annual Mask Art Show LA

Second Annual Mask Art Show LA

Last year’s show featured over 30 artists with an emphasis on masks and faces and lasted only one night. It was such a huge success that this year’s event has been extended to a month-long show at the venerable, historic arts center Beyond Baroque in Venice, California. Produced and curated by Dulce Stein, the show will include many of LA’s top contemporary artists.

Phoenix Magazine shines the spotlight on me in their April 2016 Issue

Phoenix Magazine shines the spotlight on me in their April 2016 Issue

It could go to my head being referred to as “Original Hepcat and Artist-Entrepreneur.” What a great spotlight spread from Phoenix Magazine! Marilyn Hawkes, writer, did a masterful job of summing up my life in five paragraphs and photographer Michael Woodall (pictured here with assistant Natasha Mishana) got such a fantastic close-up of me and my work!

Many thanks to Managing Editor Niki D’Andrea and the crew at Phoenix Magazine for consistently turning out one of the most relevant city magazines in publication.

Tieken Gallery Presents Co_Works: A Transatlantic Venture with Guest Curator, Norbert Guthier

Tieken Gallery Presents Co_Works: A Transatlantic Venture with Guest Curator, Norbert Guthier

Imagine you could travel the world, stopping wherever you wish to meet your favorite artists and to visit with them in their studios, spending a day or two watching them at work.

For Norbert Guthier of Germany, this is not a dream but a reality that he has been living for the last several years. Not only has Guthier been visiting artists throughout the Americas, he has created a book, Co_Works, that combines photographs by Guthier with original artwork from the artists inspired by these photos.

Living the ultimate curator’s dream, Guthier is now working on a series of shows featuring these Co_Works with the premier American showing at Tieken Gallery opening February 27, 2016.

Featured in the show will be artists Emilio Martinez, Miami, FL; Matt Sesow, Washington, DC; Heather Wilcoxon, San Francisco, CA; Matthias Bolz, Dresden, Germany; Barbara Fisher, Asheville, NC; Brad Moody, Houston, TX; and Fred Tieken, Paradise Valley, AZ & Venice Beach, CA; with photography by Norbert Guthier, Frankfurt, Germany.

The opening reception on February 27 will be by RSVP. An event page will be posted on the Facebook Tieken Gallery page in mid February so please sign up early. We are expecting a full-to-capacity opening and you must be on the guest list to attend this event.

Sculpture Maze

Sculpture Maze

In mid-February, Uno and I will be heading over to bG Gallery in Santa Monica for Sculpture Maze. Part curatorial/part installation, Om Bleicher is creating a maze within the gallery from line upon line of sculptures. Guests will be invited to walk through the maze exploring the beauty of the individual sculptures that make up the walls of the maze itself. What fun! I just hope Uno behaves himself.

Pigment & Power | Fred Tieken & Michael Flechtner

Pigment & Power | Fred Tieken & Michael Flechtner

First Friday in February, I’ll be back in Phoenix with friend and fellow artist Michael Flechtner to light up the walls of Chartreuse Contemporary Art Space on historic Grand Avenue with our show entitled Pigment & Power. I’ve been working around the clock to finish a collection of new works for this show. Like myself, Michael, who lives in Los Angeles, uses language and pop imagery to reflect contemporary culture, but he uses 3-dimensional neon instead of paint. It’s going to be a great show! Many thanks to Nancy Hill and Mike Oleskow of Chartreuse who have given me some of my most memorable shows over the years.

February 5 – 25, 2016, Opening Reception, Friday, February 5, 2016, 6pm to 10pm.
