Ever since Gail and I visited a Chinatown gallery opening a few years ago, this urban gem in downtown Los Angeles has held a special place in our hearts. Its history is interwoven with the city itself and its present incarnation as a hip home for artists, galleries, photographers, musicians and one-of-a-kind shops makes it a regular stop for a night out on the town.
The pedestrian walkway of Chung King Road provides an unparalleled opportunity for city-dwellers to forget about traffic and stroll the area at leisure. And, it’s not unusual on any given Saturday night to be entertained by one or more live bands.
So, when our friend Mat Gleason from Coagula Curatorial called and said he knew of an available space just a few steps from his gallery, we had to take a look.
And that is how Tieken Gallery LA came about. Our grand opening is scheduled for October 21, 2017 with a solo show of my new paintings along with my newest installation, Killer bees attack MAR-A-LAGO. Please come see my new work and experience a perfect autumn evening in Chinatown.

Gail and I are so pleased to be Honorary Co-chairs of the 2018 ART FROM THE HEART auction sponsored by Free Arts of Arizona. Their mission of healing abused and homeless children through artistic expression has led this amazing nonprofit organization to work with over 110,000 homeless and abused children since 1993, at no charge, at more than 45 partner social service agencies.
Please visit the Free Arts of Arizona website to purchase tickets to the upcoming 2017 Every Child Matters Luncheon on November 1, and mark your calendars now for an evening of art and fun next April 7, at the ART FROM THE HEART auction at Saks Fifth Avenue in Phoenix. As this year’s featured artist, I join a distinguished and talented group of past honorees. Uno’s Dream Pony (above) will be one of the many works of art donated by participating artists and available at the auction.
That’s it for now. Hope to see you soon.
UNO’s Beach Party Installation, 2017 LA Art Show
Before I tell you about my Spring lineup, I thought I’d take one more look back at my LA Art Show installation in January. UNO’s Beach Party was seen by over 70,000 people during the run of the fair. It was tons of fun but also exhausting, so now that I’ve caught my breath, please join me at these upcoming shows…

We barely had time to catch our breath from the Miami shows when we threw all of our energy into preparing for the upcoming LA Art Show, January 11 – 15, 2017 in the Los Angeles Convention Center West Hall.
I will be introducing UNO’S GMO Beach Party installation and will be painting a mural directly on the show wall as part of the installation. I also will be showing my new “famous artists portrait series” and other new work under the Coagula Curatorial banner just inside the show entrance at exhibition space #113.
The LA Art Show is entering its third decade as one of the world’s largest and longest running events with 150,000 square feet of exhibition space and close to 70,000 attendees last year. While dedicated to maintaining their commitment to technique and integrity, the show’s principals continue to further refine their curatorial vision by presenting innovative galleries and artist performances that showcase premier Modern and Contemporary work. Please check their web site for show times and directions.
Before I go, I also want to thank Phoenix New Times and arts writer Lynn Trimble for the in-depth studio interview.
Hope to see you at the show!
